Seasonal Spirits.
Re: Seasonal Spirits.
Once tried overproof rum - interesting sensation - leaves the mouth feeling much like it does when you eat pizza straight from the oven and it burns the roof of your mouth.

Re: Seasonal Spirits.
Popped in to the local Waitrose today and noticed they had a special offer on "The Glenlivet" - 12yo 40% - only £23. So have just had a taste. Can't remember if I've tried it before. A sort of sweet marzipan/nuttiness and quite nice, but nothing exceptional, imo. For the forthcoming "landmark" birthday, I will be looking for something more significant. And I expect it will be the Lagavulin 16yo, without going on to the highly expensive exotica on offer at the two specialist online places I visit occasionally.

We are not united in our boycott of Waitrose then?bindeweede wrote:Popped in to the local Waitrose today and noticed they had a special offer on "The Glenlivet" - 12yo 40% - only £23. I won't be buying alcohol in Waitrose this Christmastime.

Was a boycott ever proposed?

Did I misunderstand the intention of chaggle's thread "Avoid Waitrose"? I suppose one can "avoid" without "boycotting" as I have been doing myself all year. I simply hadn't been in a Waitrose without any deliberate intention to withdraw my custom.
Allow me to rephrase: We are not united in our avoiding of Waitrose then?

Re: Seasonal Spirits.
What was all that the other day about 1 glass of wine being equal to 3 shots of vodka? Not here in Spain, where they count to seven as they our in the vodka, it isn't....
Sorry, just getting away from whiskey for a moment
No Waitrose that I know of here so I won't be shopping there

Actually Waitrose are now in the clear as they no longer encourage the abuse of animals - they have removed that sentence from the blurb.Croydon13013 wrote:bindeweede wrote:Was a boycott ever proposed?

I'm more interested in the "highly expensive exotica on offer at the two specialist online places I visit occasionally". :ro
Don't blame me - I voted remain
Re: Seasonal Spirits.
If you want to avoid Waitrose stuff, the new Eroski in Gibraltar have a lot of their lines - try there.Tinkerbell wrote:What was all that the other day about 1 glass of wine being equal to 3 shots of vodka? Not here in Spain, where they count to seven as they our in the vodka, it isn't....

We aren't supposed to post commercial links, but these two retailers are easy to find.. The most expensive scotch I could find at MasterofMalts is ....chaggle wrote:

Glenfarclas 60 Year Old (cask 1672)
(70cl, 43.3%)
at an unbelievable price of.......................£14,495.00
and The Whisky Exchange actually lists an 1858 cognac at £100,000 :rll
Both have an amazing selection of spirits of all sorts, at much more reasonable prices.

I'm going to continue my boycott as enthusiastically as I have done so far this year!chaggle wrote:Actually Waitrose are now in the clear as they no longer encourage the abuse of animals - they have removed that sentence from the blurb.
Shirley we don't know that they have stopped encouraging animal abuse. We know that they are no longer admitting to it.

Re: Seasonal Spirits.
A little "bump"?
Santa today kindly presented us with Springbank 10yo (Campbeltown) and Caol Ila 12yo (Islay). Neither totally stunning, but both highly acceptable. :yea

Well, enjoy that Binders. :)
Just driven back from SIL's place where we had a wonderful lunch with much of her family but we couldn't take our three dogs as it would have made an unmanageable nine in total.
So I've left her there and I'm on my Tod for the next few days with the pooches. All the pubs are closed and I don't drink at home so that's it - I'm on the wagon for Christmas day. Won't do me any harm.

I think that counts as extreme deprivation if not an infringement of your human rights :ochaggle wrote:All the pubs are closed and I don't drink at home so that's it - I'm on the wagon for Christmas day.

I'd forgotten how much I like Talisker (just the 10yo). But now that I have returned to it, I remember......... :y
