"Dear England".

Post by bindeweede »

Gareth Southgate's article from about a month ago that seems to have upset some sections of the media. To quote David Allen Green,

"Southgate's articulation of solidarity is everything that the facile populist nationalism of the current government and its supporters is not.

No wonder they have a phrase to deride it."

And that phrase is "Deep Woke."

I'm not much of a football fan but it seems to me that Southgate and the England team have conducted themselves admirably during this campaign

Shame about the fans.

Whether we win or lose tomorrow night, I worry about the aftermath.
Don't blame me - I voted remain :con

Apparently, the English Football Association has been fined £25,630 after being charged with three offences - booing the Danish national anthem, setting off fireworks inside Wembley and pointing green lasers at the face of the Danish goalkeeper. I just don't understand that sort of mentality, whether from a tiny minority or not.

Win or lose tomorrow, I also worry about how some so-called supporters will behave.
