Tick & flea collars made of stones
Someone in our little pueblo is selling tick and flea collars made of stones, have had a look online and assume it is amber. Claims they work and last for ever! Too good to be true? I expect so, however I did used to have some amber beads and they are quite tacky in feeling...anyway that it could work?

Hi Tink.
I assume it's this sort of thing...
https://ambercrown.com/products/amber-collar
Any more info? Are they just saying that they work or is there any backup info - a leaflet or something?
On the face of it it seems implausible to say the least and dangerous, as around there as you know there are nasties like Leishmaniasis and heartworm carried by insects.
I'll look further to see if I can find any more.

This is a .co.uk website so I could report it to the ASA.

They say...
I would assume that they are useless and not use them for my dogs.
Maybe it's time for another entry in my blog...

They say...
but then...The Amber Collar with Malachite and Red Jasper provides proven protection against ticks and fleas - and it’s completely natural and chemical free!
I don't know where those two conflicting statements would leave them with the ASA.The effects of amber and other healing stones have not been scientifically proven and we expressly indicate that the Amber Collar with Malachite and Red Jasper is not a suitable replacement for veterinary care or treatment and we cannot guarantee the effect of the collar.

Re: Tick & flea collars made of stones
It might be worth asking the seller if the collars also protect against sandflies and mosquitoes.
Sandflies spread Leishmaniasis and mosquitoes spread heartworm.
Their answer might be interesting.
If they don't know, maybe it would be worth saying to them that you will ask the vet and see how they react.

I will try and find out more about them. I like this statement on that link...
'Application:
Remove all ticks and fleas with other methods before using the Amber Collar.'
