This is an epistemological crisis. A moment in history when the very nature of knowledge is in doubt because the means by which it is acquired have been undermined.
But in a world in which established purveyors of news and information are smeared as "false news" collaborators, what would the reaction of anti-European Britons if it was found that the Leave campaign was infiltrated by Russia?
Or of an indictment of Trump's administration or election as having been compromised by the Kremlin?
Would the mob, reinforced by propaganda it is lapping up on social media, cry "false news" and label the authorities behind such investigations "enemies of the people"?
