This reminded me of an inspired hoax reported in the news some years ago. Houses in a small Italian village received letters addressed to the women, which told them that a special satellite would be passing overhead the next day at a certain time. It would beam down rays which would prevent breast cancer. All they had to do was stand outside their front doors stripped to the waist.

Apparently, lots of them did....
