This is the telling line from the article.So our minds decide that some unseen set of human beings must be doing all these bad things for a specific, nefarious purpose. This is a more comforting, safe notion than ‘it’s just a bunch of random stuff that happens’.
Some people use this as a justification for their low station in life - a shadowy force, uncontrolled and unidentifiable and blameable for every misfortune that befalls them.
It absolves them of responsibility for the poor quality of their own lives.
Don't blame me - I voted remain
