Re: The Soil Association
It's made no discernible difference for the past thirty or so years so I doubt it'll start now.

I note that the admission came via PM rather than openly on the post itself ...
Bloody organization made life hell for smallholders in Wales when I was there with their sometimes nonsensical (and sometimes dangerous) regulations.

Re: Skeps Forum Twitter account.
I've got quite a busy website, but I still find twitter pales into insignificance compared to Facebook. I have just under 400 or so "followers" on twitter, but just under 4,000 or so on Facebook. Also, in terms of people clicking back to my own site, it's negligible compared to Facebook, a...

Re: Handedness
I'm right handed and had right-ear problems which left me with slightly better hearing (mainly psychologically so) in my left ear. A few months ago I'd have said, therefore, that the reason I held the phone to my left ear was for hearing reasons. But recently, my left side hearing has deteriorated a...

Re: Does the moon affect our mood or actions?
I knew an emergency services ambulance driver years ago who worked night shifts in the greater London area, and he swore that although they would get some sleep quite often, they never got any during full moons. He only worked nights and said he'd had years to verify this. I don't really see where t...

The expat forums I am still on (even though I'm no longer abroad) are full of it and I have to say that the 'outers' are winning hands down but I think this might be expected - it's far easier to knock than justify. It's the same in Tenerife, and here many are pensioners ... and I have to say that ...

Fantastic! I still count Schama's Rembrandt's Eyes as one of my favourite books!

Re: Freedom of speech
I remember 15 years ago being told that my concern - and complaint - was "inappropriate" when a poster on Manchester University Arts Fac notice board was advertising a talk by someone who would now unequivocally be called a "hate preacher". And yet the PC liberal ... what? brigad...

I'm sad and shocked too. Can't actually believe it. I imagine quite a few of us grew up with him, he was always there, in one persona or another. I thought all was fine and that the new album was yet another wonderful surprise that he'd sprung on us ... of course the real surprise was still to come....

no, buying the site doesn't equate to setting up a foundation. Setting up a foundation is like setting up a company - there is paperwork, official registration, and a sum lodged to confirm solvency. It doesn't have anything to do with what the foundation might do, like buying land. Synchronicity or ...

Re: What book are you reading at the moment?
I love my kindle! At the moment, I'm reading Philippa Gregory's Red Queen, sequel to the White Queen. It's all a bit flowery, but the history's reasonably solid enough (apparently not the case for her Boleyn novels). But they don't come close to Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall, which was superb, and which...
